Volunteers Give Back at HomeAid Care Day

On Friday, September 13th, 2024, HomeAid Atlanta partnered with Strack, Inc. and Professional Women in Building (PWB) Atlanta Chapter at International Women’s House (IWH) for a HomeAid Care Day, a volunteer workday providing free-of-charge maintenance and repairs for locations serving people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. IWH provides a safe haven and supportive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking.

More than 30 Care Day volunteers worked together to transform IWH offices and kitchen with a fresh coat of interior paint. “The fresh paint job is great! Everyone loves it. It truly brightens up our space,” said Tonya Ferguson, IWH Executive Director.

Thanks to the work of volunteers plus Sherwin-Williams’ generous donation of paint, this Care Day provided a savings of approximately $12,000 for IWH on this painting transformation. Sherwin-Williams donated paint for two additional upcoming Care Days at IWH, a total of 60 gallons of paint.

This was Strack’s first HomeAid Care Day, part of the company’s investment in community engagement through its "Strack Gives Back" initiative, a company-wide day of service. Prior to this collaboration, Strack generously donated grading, seeding and landscape prep services in support of HomeAid’s project at Gateway Domestic Violence Center in Hall County in 2023.

Members of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s Professional Women in Building Council (PWB) lent a hand at the Care Day as well, as a part of the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Professional Women in Building Week, a celebration of women as an important component of the residential construction industry.

IWH has been a beacon of hope for women and children since 1997, providing essential services such as emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and educational programs. Their comprehensive, culturally sensitive approach addresses both immediate needs and long-term recovery, significantly impacting the lives of those affected by violence and exploitation. With staff members speaking over 11 languages and access to translation services for 140 languages, IWH is uniquely positioned to support individuals from more than 50 countries.

Kayla Bloom, HomeAid Atlanta Marketing and Events Manager said, “A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work in making this event a success! This was my first Care Day as a HomeAid staff member, and it was great to see community members come together to support the IWH staff and the survivors who are rebuilding their lives.”
