HomeAid Volunteers Help Homeless Veterans
Atlanta home builder JW Collection gives back in Cherokee County.
Atlanta – October 31, 2022 – On October 7, volunteers from home builder JW Collection joined HomeAid Atlanta for a Care Day at Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program. Building industry nonprofit HomeAid Atlanta works to build a future without homelessness through construction, community engagement, and education. HomeAid’s Care Days are volunteer workdays that provide free-of-charge maintenance and repairs at organizations serving people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. The Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program serves veterans by providing help with food, housing, clothing, Veterans Affairs claims, home of record, and other support.
Throughout this HomeAid Care Day, JW Collection volunteers worked on the facility grounds as well as inside. The group tore down an exterior deck, dug a French drain, tore out unwanted indoor shelving, trimmed trees and shrubs and performed extensive landscaping around the property. The hard work of volunteers provided a savings of over $9,000 in maintenance costs. This work was done in preparation for a large remodeling project that HomeAid is planning to undertake with the Cherokee Homeless Veterans Program to provide beds for 35 male veterans experiencing homelessness.
JW Collection CEO John Wieland is a longtime HomeAid Atlanta supporter. Mr. Wieland served as HomeAid Atlanta’s first-ever builder captain for the Atlanta [Union] Mission's Second Mile Home, and led the building of My House a few years later. Over the years, Mr. Wieland has continued to support HomeAid through generous financial contributions and hosting HomeAid events. "I just want to say that I’m excited to be here with the team today. We have had a long relationship with HomeAid because of all of the good work they do,” said Wieland on October 7.

HomeAid Atlanta is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001, with a mission to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education. HomeAid builds, renovates, and maintains facilities for nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness. HomeAid has completed over 170 construction projects at locations for victims of domestic violence, teen mothers, veterans and more, utilizing connections with building industry professionals and community organizations.
