150 Volunteers Join Final 2022 Care Day
Atlanta – November 30, 2022 – On November 11, BOMA Georgia (Building Owners and Managers Association of Georgia) and national home builder Lennar participated in an extensive HomeAid Care Day at Calvary Refuge Center in Forest Park. Care Days, an outreach initiative of HomeAid Atlanta, are volunteer workdays providing free-of-charge maintenance and repairs for organizations that serve people experiencing homelessness. Over 40 BOMA Georgia member companies and approximately 150 volunteers participated in this massive effort at Calvary, which provides a safe, faith-based environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Care Day volunteers completed a total landscaping overhaul, indoor and outdoor painting tasks – including painting 16 rooms, roof repairs, minor repairs throughout, plumbing and electrical repairs, cleaning, and much more. The work of volunteers combined with donations of materials provided Calvary a savings of well over $60,000 on maintenance and repairs. Savings like these allow Calvary to spend less on facility maintenance and more on the people it serves, like former client Joseph. “When my daughter and I were at our lowest and it seemed that no one in the greater Atlanta area could help us, Calvary answered the call,” said Joseph. “Calvary Refuge is much more than a temporary shelter. Calvary supplied my family with safety, warmth, breakfast, lunch, dinner, housing resources, encouragement, and most of all, love. I can't thank the staff enough. Because of their encouragement, my daughter and I were able to press on and move into a two-bedroom home.”
BOMA Georgia and HomeAid Atlanta have long worked together to build a future without homelessness. Over the last 13 years, BOMA Georgia has participated in eight HomeAid Care Days and several other HomeAid initiatives. “BOMA Georgia is proud to have partnered for our eighth BOMA Georgia and HomeAid Atlanta Care Day to help complete the renovation needs for Calvary Refuge Center in Forest Park. Whether it was packing CareKits for the homeless population in Atlanta, or BOMA Georgia’s other community service project in support of the Atlanta Children’s Shelter in 2022, partners like HomeAid Atlanta are integral to building value for the people, communities, and charities supported by our members in the commercial real estate industry,” said Jacob Wilder, BOMA Georgia Senior Director of Operations and Communications.
The November 11 Care Day was HomeAid Atlanta’s final Care Day of 2022. HomeAid completed 16 Care Days this year, providing a total savings of over $135,000 on maintenance and repairs for metro Atlanta service providers.
