Transformation at Trinity Community Ministries

Atlanta – February 9, 2022 – HomeAid Atlanta volunteers recently completed extensive painting work and more at Trinity Community Ministries (Trinity) in downtown Atlanta. HomeAid Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to build a future without homelessness. HomeAid Care Days provide free facility maintenance, upgrades, and repairs for organizations that provide housing and services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Located in the Sweet Auburn District of downtown Atlanta, Trinity Community Ministries’ mission is to help homeless men reclaim their lives and return to their families and communities as mentors and leaders.

On November 5, 2021 over 30 volunteers from Meritage Homes, Evans General Contractors, Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia (MBAG), National Association of Home Builders Kennesaw State University Student Chapter (KSU NAHB), McMichael and Gray, PC, Lambda Theta Phi Fraternity of KSU, Greater Atlanta Home Builder Association’s (GAHBA) Young Professionals Group, GAHBA staff spent the day transforming portions of the three-story facility with a much-needed fresh coat of paint. Prior to the Care Day, the home was painted several different bright colors throughout.

Northwest Exterminating provided lunch for the group. Evans General Contractors donated 50 gallons of paint. In addition to painting, Arborguard Tree Specialists provided tree removal and tree trimming services to clean up the grounds. In December, Community Associations Institute Georgia Chapter (CAI) CAI Cares members purchased 10 much-needed tables and 75 chairs, which were high on Trinity’s wish list. CAI members Russell Landscaping and Outdoor Solutions Group completed an overhaul of the outdoor area for Trinity’s residents.

On January 28, volunteers from Juneau Construction Company joined HomeAid Atlanta for a second Care Day at Trinity to complete the painting work, transforming two hallways, a laundry room, and a workout room. The new paint now provides a calming, unified look throughout the historic building. Volunteers also replaced numerous damaged ceiling tiles throughout the historic building.

Thanks to the work of volunteers and donations of building materials and services, HomeAid Atlanta provided a savings of nearly $22,000 for Trinity. The savings can directly help the men who call Trinity home, instead of going toward building maintenance.

For more than 30 years, Trinity has helped men turn their lives around thanks to the structure and support provided there. Atlanta native Dr. Bakari Vickerson entered Trinity when he was only sixteen years old. With support from Trinity, he was able to get his GED and attend Morehouse College. Today, he serves as the intake psychiatrist at Grady Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic and Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine at Morehouse College. Dr. Vickerson, also a former board member of Trinity Community Ministries, regularly gives back by providing mental health support, medication, and counseling services to current Trinity clients.
