Spring Care Days & More

HomeAid Atlanta provides volunteer opportunities to help build a future without homelessness.

On April 8, volunteers from Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia and Kennesaw State University’s National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter joined a HomeAid Care Day at Covenant House Georgia.

HomeAid Atlanta recognizes how challenging it can be for families and individuals in need to provide for their most basic needs during times of crisis and transition. HomeAid works to provide dignity and restore hope through its many community engagement programs. These efforts provide the opportunity for metro Atlanta volunteers to help meet the immediate needs of families and individuals experiencing homelessness, and the organizations that assist them. This spring, HomeAid Atlanta’s outreach efforts are in full swing with HomeAid Care Days, HomeAid CareKits, and the organization’s annual Essentials Drive.

HomeAid Care Days provide free facility maintenance, upgrades, and repairs for organizations that provide housing and supportive services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. On March 12, volunteers from Overhead Door Company of Atlanta/DH Pace joined HomeAid Atlanta at the Ascensa Health Women’s Residence. The Care Day kicked off a renovation project at the facility, clearing the way for upcoming work led by Bradley Hall of Hall Design Build. The project will provide much-needed updates to the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a new laundry space, and general improvements throughout. When complete, the house will be home to 8 to 10 women working to rebuild their lives after overcoming addiction.

On April 8, volunteers from Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia and Kennesaw State University’s National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter joined a HomeAid Care Day at Covenant House Georgia. Volunteers transformed two TV lounges and an extensive hallway with a fresh coat of paint. The hard work of these volunteers brightened up the facility for youth experiencing homelessness, making it feel more like a home, as well as provided a savings of over $7,600 on painting labor and materials. Covenant House provides housing, programs, and services to youth experiencing homelessness and escaping trafficking; they show unconditional love and give comprehensive support so that youth can and will realize their fullest potential.

On March 30, volunteers from The Northview Church’s Teen and Middle School Ministry packed 500 HomeAid CareKits for people experiencing homelessness. CareKits contain hygiene items and more. The CareKits were donated to Zaban Paradies Center, which serves couples and families experiencing homelessness, providing essential services to help them achieve economic stability and well-being.

HomeAid Atlanta’s Annual Essentials Drive to collect diapers and baby wipes for families with infants and toddlers at risk of or experiencing homelessness runs from April 1 – May 4. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Essentials Drive, which is held annually in honor of Mother’s Day. An estimated 5,500 people in metro Atlanta experience homelessness on any given night and almost 50% are women and children. Many families are in dire need of diapers and wipes for their little ones, and these items are not available through any existing safety net program. HomeAid invites the public to donate new diapers in all sizes, and unscented baby wipes at nearly 30 drop off locations or via online baby registries. Visit http://www.homeaidatlanta.org/essentials-drive for complete information. All donations will be distributed to participting HomeAid Atlanta service provider partners serving families.

HomeAid Atlanta’s Second Annual Hope and  Homes Virtual 5K Race provides a great opportunity for team building and fun. Participants can walk, run, or jog to raise awareness and funds for HomeAid Atlanta's work. Last year, nearly 100 people signed up and together they raised over $3,000 in support of HomeAid’s mission. This year, HomeAid Atlanta hopes to raise $5,000 to further its work in metro Atlanta.
