HomeAid Saves $25,000 with April Care Days
Three volunteer workdays generate impactful savings on construction and maintenance costs.
ATLANTA – May 2, 2024 – Each year, building industry nonprofit HomeAid Atlanta completes ten or more Care Days, hands-on volunteer workdays, free-of-charge for nonprofits providing housing and services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Ashton Woods Homes employees volunteered at a HomeAid Care Day at House of Dawn in Jonesboro on April 11, and again on April 12 with help from Beacon Management Services and BrightView employees. Volunteers completed priming and painting tasks, as well as major landscape work, building a gazebo, and more. These companies provided in-kind donations of materials to make this two-day Care Day event possible: Sherwin-Williams, Superior Irrigation & Landscape Supply, Flores Pinestraw & Mulch, and NG Turf. House of Dawn provides housing and supportive services to young mothers and their children at risk of homelessness, as well as workforce affordable housing. The two Care Days provided savings of about $20,000 on construction and landscaping costs for House of Dawn, so that they can focus more funds on helping people like Deonna.
Deonna chose to save her baby when friends and family suggested otherwise. She was four months pregnant when she arrived at House of Dawn. She immediately felt she was in the right place. While at House of Dawn, she learned how to be a responsible and independent new mom. She enrolled in college, never before dreaming she would become a college student. She also secured her driving permit and learned to drive.
On April 19, volunteers from SouthState Bank joined a HomeAid Care Day at Status: Home. The group painted the interiors of three townhome-style apartments that will provide affordable housing for people affected by HIV/AIDS at risk of homelessness. The work of volunteers provided a savings of over $5,000 for Status: Home. Established in 1988, Status: Home (formerly Jerusalem House) is the oldest and largest provider of permanent housing, holistic support, and empowerment for Atlanta’s low-income and homeless individuals and families impacted by HIV/AIDS.
“Thank you, HomeAid Atlanta, for your invaluable service and dedication to our organization.
