First 2023 Care Day!
Tearing Down Walls to End Homelessness: Home builders and friends kick off a renovation project in Midtown
Atlanta – February 16, 2023 – Building industry nonprofit HomeAid Atlanta kicked off its 2023 series of Care Days on February 10. HomeAid Care Days are volunteer workdays providing free-of-charge maintenance and repairs for organizations that serve people experiencing homelessness.
Volunteers from Ashton Woods, Starlight Homes, SouthState Bank, Kennesaw State University National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter, and Vincent Longo Custom Builders joined forces at the site of Ascensa Health Women’s Recovery Residence in Midtown. The group spent the day completing demolition tasks throughout the home, which will soon undergo renovations led by HomeAid volunteer Bradley Hall of Hall Design Build and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Remodelers Council.
The Ascensa Health Women’s Recovery Residence provides a safe place for women in the final phase of recovery from addiction prior to returning to their families and communities. HomeAid Atlanta’s remodeling project will provide much-needed updates to the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a new laundry space, and general improvements throughout. When complete, the house will be home to 8 to 10 women. HomeAid’s February 10 Care Day volunteers not only spent the day in service to their community, their hard work provided a savings of $13,000 on demolition services for this remodel project.

“The Care Day volunteers did an amazing job working together in tough, dusty conditions. It was a fun and safe day of demolition. The work we did saved HomeAid critical funds that are needed towards accomplishing the end result of the house for its future residents. I hope all volunteers had a good time donating their time to such a great cause, and hope to see you again in the trenches!” said Bruce Carothers, Division Manager, Starlight Homes Georgia, who volunteered as well as assisted in planning the Care Day.
HomeAid Atlanta plans to complete ten Care Days this year, in addition to its construction projects, annual Essentials Drive, packing CareKits, and more – all in an effort to build a future without homelessness in metro Atlanta.
HomeAid Atlanta is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001, with a mission to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education. HomeAid builds, renovates, and maintains facilities for nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness. HomeAid has completed over 170 construction projects at locations for victims of domestic violence, teen mothers, veterans and more, utilizing connections with building industry professionals and community organizations. HomeAid also provides essential items like diapers, wipes, and hygiene products to those affected by homelessness. HomeAid is the designated charity of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.
