ATLANTA, GA – JUNE 29, 2021 – Friday, June 18 was a beautiful, sunny day, perfect for a HomeAid Care Day. Nearly 30 volunteers from Brightwater Homes and members of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Young Professionals Group joined building industry nonprofit HomeAid Atlanta at Positive Growth, Inc. in Clarkston. HomeAid Care Days provide maintenance, upgrades, and repairs for nonprofits that serve people experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers spent the day refreshing the home for teen boys by painting the bedrooms and staining an extensive outdoor deck that serves as a gathering place for these young men. Positive Growth Inc. has a mission to provide a structured, home-like environment for troubled and/or homeless adolescent males ages six to 21 through spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional guidance. The work done by HomeAid volunteers helped to brighten up the atmosphere and provide a refresh for boys who are overcoming many challenges in their young lives.

“I was lost at age 13. Both parents were out of my life; my brother was incarcerated, and my grandmother was doing her best to raise me. I was next in line for failure, but as fate would have it, I was removed from my grandmother’s care and placed at Positive Growth, Inc. A safe place, it provided me with structure, guidance, nurturing and the opportunity to grow in a positive way. Today that lost little boy is now a productive young man who is a full time college student and employee of Positive Growth Inc. I now help to shape the minds of other young men,” said J. Johnson.

HomeAid Atlanta serves as a "bridge," connecting builders, trades, and suppliers with community organizations serving families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Because of generous donations of labor and materials, HomeAid projects provide significant construction savings for these organizations. The June 18 Care Day saved $5,000 in building maintenance costs for Positive Growth, Inc.

Since 2008, HomeAid has held nearly 100 Care Days at locations serving victims of domestic violence, teen mothers, veterans and others. This was HomeAid’s second Care Day at Positive Growth, Inc.
