Care Day at Solomon’s Temple

Atlanta – July 28, 2022 – On July 21, Juneau Construction Company summer interns spent the day with HomeAid Atlanta at Solomon’s Temple Foundation, an organization that serves women experiencing homelessness and their children, providing emergency and transitional housing and programs to foster independence. Juneau interns participated in a HomeAid Care Day, a hands-on workday providing repairs and upgrades at no charge for organizations that help families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Juneau volunteers tackled indoor and outdoor tasks around the facility. The group organized storage closets, assembled furniture, repaired beds, completed deep cleaning of all four Solomon’s Temple intake rooms, and even finished several landscaping tasks despite rainstorms.

Juneau Construction Company encourages and supports participation in service activities that contribute to the community.  Throughout the year, Juneau participates in multiple events company-wide and encourages individual participation in community outreach activities. Thanks to the hard work of Juneau volunteers and donations of materials, this HomeAid Care Day provided a savings of over $5,200 for Solomon’s Temple. This money-saving support allows Solomon’s Temple to focus less on building and grounds maintenance, and more on providing care and programs for the families it serves, like residents Doni and her five-year-old son, Zamonie.

When Zamonie, who was diagnosed with autism at age two, arrived at Solomon’s Temple, he was very shy, and never made eye contact with others. Doni thought the large number of families living in the shelter would overwhelm him, but after regular interaction with Solomon’s Temple staff and other residents, Zamonie has made progress. He has begun smiling, following verbal commands, fist bumping, and verbalizing. He has become very inquisitive, loves the outdoors, and he has an exceptional understanding of computers. Doni is thrilled about her son’s progress, thanks to the loving, family environment provided at Solomon’s Temple.

The July 21 Care Day was HomeAid’s ninth of 2022, and its seventh Care Day at Solomon’s Temple since 2015. “We are so appreciative of your kindness and all the hard work performed at our facility. We are excited and look forward to continuing this amazing partnership in the future,” said Valerie Hampton, Solomon’s Temple Director of Programs and Facilities.
